Hi everyone! Welcome to the Public Domain Day Bingo fest for 2024. On January 1st, a whole lot of creative works come into the public domain, including Steamboat Willie, The Circus, The Mystery of the Blue Train, and The House at Pooh Corner. In the United States, all works first published in 1928 are now available for adaption, performance, and copying. I tried my best to make it a diverse list, but I had a hard time finding comprehensive lists of all the works available, and I'm not overly familiar with most of the works. I did my best to find things that would make good prompts, but you are always free to make your own cards or peruse some of the links I've included for more works to add.

In other parts of the world, coming into the public domain are works by people who died in 1953, for countries with a copyright term of “life plus 70 years” (e.g. UK, Russia, most of EU and South America); and works by people who died in 1973, for countries with a term of “life plus 50 years” (e.g. New Zealand, and most of Africa and Asia).

This fest will run from January 1-31 and I'll provide 3x3 public cards, plus one 5x5 mixed card to get everyone started.

My 3X3 card is ready for Public Domain Day Bingo Fest using a mix of all the prompt lists, and I'd appreciate additional suggestions that expand on any word or phrase on the bingo card. Feel free to make suggestions that tie into my ongoing series' or for something completely new.

Thank you so much. I'm still wondering how I'm going to pull off Snowflake this year. I don't want to miss it, but there's so much going on. *Crosses Fingers*

If you need to cut corners, do the first and last posts as soon after they go up as possible. Those are the ones people most often try to read all the entries to see who they want to connect with.

If you have favorite challenges, watch for those and do them.

You don't have to do them all. Lots of people cherry-pick or just get too busy.

I hope it doesn't come to that. I'm hoping that I won't have any problem with the new internet and cable when I move. There's just a lot of packing and running back and forth until I'm settled and can get the house up to sell. I wish I'd gotten it together much sooner, but you can't go backwards just forward. At least I'm almost done boxing up the kitchen.

Thank you. My nerves are shot. The movers are coming in awhile. I am so not ready. I'll be moving some stuff later on my own.

It's good that you have movers to help, though. Doing it alone is much worse.

I wish I had hired the people that pack and unpack for you. It seems so ridiculous, but I'm excited. There's stuck is still so much undone.

>> I wish I had hired the people that pack and unpack for you. <<

That can be very helpful.

>> It seems so ridiculous, but I'm excited. <<

It's normal to feel excited about a move, or any big change -- it opens up new opportunities to meet people and discover places. It's also normal to feel exhausted.

Something I learned from previous moves and other challenges: eat real whole foods that actually give energy, not junk that creates a sugar spike followed by a crash.

https://www.goodto.com/food/foods-that-boost-energy-614079

Yogurt, granola bars, and fresh juicy fruits are among my go-to foods when I feel drained. Anything refreshing I can eat out of hand. And something available now that wasn't the last time I moved: smoothie bars. They'll throw a whole bunch of things in a blender, whizz it, and hand you human rocket fuel in a cup. \o/ Got one at a mall once when I was worn out -- frozen yogurt, blueberries, and yes I would love a scoop of protein powder!

I hope you feel better soon.

That's super cool! I need to get better at working on things as soon as I commit to them, but alas. :')

It's such a fun card though. I'm looking forward to getting started...

Yeah, sometimes I miss a step too. I'll buy a thing and not put it up, or forget to work on something. It's why my goals page has a list of many things, so I remember to do them.

One thing that helps with getting started: make it small enough that you can start it immediately. Drabble, vignette, haiku -- we even have an Achievement for Diamonds & Dynamite. You can make a 2x2 or 3x3 card too.

You're doing fine. This is a low-pressure, high-inspiration community so there's plenty of flexibility in making and filling cards.
