Lots of folks want to see more activity on Dreamwidth. While researching community activities, I came across the idea of thematic meet and greet events. That seemed like something which might work here, given a membership of several hundred people and a new theme each month. So I made one for this month's theme. It gives people a place to meet folks with similar interests, and to squee about the current theme.

Here is the basic outline. Fill in as much or as little of it as you wish, depending on your interests as they relate to the Westerns Bingo Fest.

Welcome to Winter Fest in July. [personal profile] spiralicious and I ([personal profile] vexed_wench) will be your guest host for the month.

We love all things winter and Christmas. We realize that not everyone has fandoms or original universes that support that. We tried to come up with a few lists that could fit into almost any ‘verse.

Feel free to use any prompt how they speak to you. I have them separated just to make the list a bit more manageable.

For example, if you use a movie or music prompt, feel free to just work off the title or you can remix the movie, it's up to you. Or however else it moves you.

As usual, there will be banners at the end of the month. Also, fills can be made of anything; fic, poetry, vid, podfics, recs, or handcrafts. Art, icons, and wallpapers are nice as well. If you think of any medium not listed, that’s cool too.

This is a winter fest-themed month, so why not share some of your favorites and rec yours or someone else's work.

Anything goes this month. The only limit is your imagination.

And once again, thank you for being our guest. Cue the candle song!

There is a public card at the bottom of this post, or feel free to make your own here.

You can mix or match any of the prompts below or pick your own if you like.

Most of all, we hope you have fun!

[personal profile] vexed_wench and I would both like to thank everyone who has participated in another round of Winterfest in July bingo. It brings us great joy that you enjoy it and keep coming back.

Banners will be coming later and I haven't collected the names of people who have finished yet for the personalized banners, so it's a good time to squeeze in your bingo if you want one, but as always, there is no true deadline for the bingo.

Go check out the Discworld Bingo hosted by [personal profile] smallhobbit this month. It looks like a lot of fun.

Thank you all again for making our bingo such a wonderful event and we hope to see you back for the Fall Fest.

The Winter Fest in July Bingo post now has a public card! Thank you for your patience. Yesterday, I had tech issues and Vexed had an unexpected death in the family, and we thought it best to get the opening post up without the public card than not at all.

Thank you again and I hope everyone has fun.

And don't forget to check out The Games and Entertainment Bingo Fest as well.

The Games and Entertainment Bingo Fest will run from July 1-31. The theme spans all sorts of playful activities. To diversify options, I've done several things...

1) Prompts are divided into several groups. These are Classic Board Games, Contemporary Board Games, Roleplaying Games, Board Game Mechanics, Video Games, Yard Games, Skill Toys, and Game Quotes. Feel free to add to these if your favorites aren't listed.

Also on the Bingo Card Generator:
Childhood Experiences
Gentle Fiction (no sex, violence, or foul language)

Relevant communities:
[community profile] gaming
[community profile] i_love_games
[community profile] indie_games
[community profile] making_games

2) A 3x3 card is offered in each current category, in hopes of making it easier to blackout. A 5x5 card mixes everything together for variety.

Feel free to mix and match the prompts, though, if you want a more diverse card. You can make a standard 5x5 or whatever you want. Creative interpretation is encouraged, and you don't have to stick to a category just because you're using its prompts. You can write about games, or just use the titles for wacky inspiration.

3) Challenges! These are prompts that make the bingo card more exciting. You can add them to any category, or skip them, as you choose. They do let you claim multiple fills from one work.

=4D Chess= Use all adjacent prompts, one per scene or chapter, sequentially in the same fill.

=Extra Pinball= Choose one square adjacent to this one, plus one anywhere NOT adjacent.

=Overtime= Double the length of the fill for an adjacent prompt.

=Pong= Combine two prompts from opposite sides of the card, with this square between them.

=Rules Lawyer= Use the EXACT game motif from the prompt in an adjacent square.

4) In addition to the standard bingo patterns of line, blackout, etc. there are others especially suited to this theme:
Baseball patterns
Field Goal
Football patterns
Golf patterns
Letter E
Letter G
Lucky 7
Picnic Table (gaming table)
