[personal profile] vexed_wench and I would both like to thank everyone who has participated in another round of Winterfest in July bingo. It brings us great joy that you enjoy it and keep coming back.

Banners will be coming later and I haven't collected the names of people who have finished yet for the personalized banners, so it's a good time to squeeze in your bingo if you want one, but as always, there is no true deadline for the bingo.

Go check out the Discworld Bingo hosted by [personal profile] smallhobbit this month. It looks like a lot of fun.

Thank you all again for making our bingo such a wonderful event and we hope to see you back for the Fall Fest.

The Winter Fest in July Bingo post now has a public card! Thank you for your patience. Yesterday, I had tech issues and Vexed had an unexpected death in the family, and we thought it best to get the opening post up without the public card than not at all.

Thank you again and I hope everyone has fun.

And don't forget to check out The Games and Entertainment Bingo Fest as well.

Lots of folks want to see more activity on Dreamwidth. While researching community activities, I came across the idea of thematic meet and greet events. That seemed like something which might work here, given a membership of several hundred people and a new theme each month. So I made one for this month's theme. It gives people a place to meet folks with similar interests, and to squee about the current theme.

Here is the basic outline. Fill in as much or as little of it as you wish, depending on your interests as they relate to the Games and Entertainment Bingo Fest.

The Games and Entertainment Bingo Fest will run from July 1-31. The theme spans all sorts of playful activities. To diversify options, I've done several things...

1) Prompts are divided into several groups. These are Classic Board Games, Contemporary Board Games, Roleplaying Games, Board Game Mechanics, Video Games, Yard Games, Skill Toys, and Game Quotes. Feel free to add to these if your favorites aren't listed.

Also on the Bingo Card Generator:
Childhood Experiences
Gentle Fiction (no sex, violence, or foul language)

Relevant communities:
[community profile] gaming
[community profile] i_love_games
[community profile] indie_games
[community profile] making_games

2) A 3x3 card is offered in each current category, in hopes of making it easier to blackout. A 5x5 card mixes everything together for variety.

Feel free to mix and match the prompts, though, if you want a more diverse card. You can make a standard 5x5 or whatever you want. Creative interpretation is encouraged, and you don't have to stick to a category just because you're using its prompts. You can write about games, or just use the titles for wacky inspiration.

3) Challenges! These are prompts that make the bingo card more exciting. You can add them to any category, or skip them, as you choose. They do let you claim multiple fills from one work.

=4D Chess= Use all adjacent prompts, one per scene or chapter, sequentially in the same fill.

=Extra Pinball= Choose one square adjacent to this one, plus one anywhere NOT adjacent.

=Overtime= Double the length of the fill for an adjacent prompt.

=Pong= Combine two prompts from opposite sides of the card, with this square between them.

=Rules Lawyer= Use the EXACT game motif from the prompt in an adjacent square.

4) In addition to the standard bingo patterns of line, blackout, etc. there are others especially suited to this theme:
Baseball patterns
Field Goal
Football patterns
Golf patterns
Letter E
Letter G
Lucky 7
Picnic Table (gaming table)

Welcome to Winter Fest in July. [personal profile] vexed_wench and I ([personal profile] spiralicious) will be your guest host for the month.

We love all things winter and Christmas. We realize that not everyone has fandoms or original universes that support that. We tried to come up with a few lists that could fit into almost any ‘verse.

Feel free to use any prompt how they speak to you. I have them separated just to make the list a bit more manageable.

For example, if you use a movie or music prompt, feel free to just work off the title or you can remix the movie, it's up to you. Or however else it moves you.

As usual, there will be banners at the end of the month. Also, fills can be made of anything; fic, poetry, vid, podfics, recs, or handcrafts. Art, icons, and wallpapers are nice as well. If you think of any medium not listed, that’s cool too.

This is a winter fest-themed month, so why not share some of your favorites and rec yours or someone else's work.

Anything goes this month. The only limit is your imagination.

And once again, thank you for being our guest. Cue the candle song!

There is a public card at the bottom of this post, or feel free to make your own here.

You can mix or match any of the prompts below or pick your own if you like.

I made 2 row bingos on my 7-1-23 card for the Fireworks Bingo Fest. Note that the batch of Eloquent Souls poems came out of the [community profile] sunshine_challenge. "That Light Bulb in Your House That Has a Short in It" is actually the starting point of a thread that [personal profile] dialecticdreamer is writing, but hers starts from the perspective of a different character.

Row 1
B1 (Mad Science) -- "Thaw With Her Gentle Persuasion" (Polychrome Heroics)
I1 (Battery) -- "My Own Personal Battery" (Eloquent Souls)
N1 (Earth Shaker) -- "Waste That Nature Can't Digest" (Polychrome Heroics: Finn Family)
G1 (Amazing Bad Ass) -- "That Light Bulb in Your House That Has a Short in It" (Polychrome Heroics: Shiv)
O1 (Red) -- "To Be Gentle and Kind" (Eloquent Souls)

Row 4
B4 (Dragon Smoke) -- "Old Wounds That Refuse to Heal" (Eloquent Souls)
I4 (Corruption) -- "Corruption, Redemption" (Polychrome Heroics: Trichromatic Attractions)
N4 (Blankets / Tarps) -- "Come to a New Point of View" (Polychrome Heroics: Rutledge)
G4 (Shenanigans) -- "Fulfillment and Joy" (LIFC)
O4 (Tie-dye Clothes) -- "For Every Time I Thought of You" (Eloquent Souls)

N2 (Justified) -- "The Basis for the Joy of Love" (Polychrome Heroics: Finn Family)

I3 (Diversion) -- "Not Until We Are Lost" (Polychrome Heroics: Rutledge)
N3 (You Have Potential) -- "Different, Not Less" (An Army of One)
O3 (Charcoal) -- "Filled with Strange Sounds" (Polychrome Heroics)

I5 (Flare) -- "Everything Is Temporary" (Eloquent Souls)
N5 (Park / Playground) -- "New Beginnings" (Eloquent Souls)
G5 (Copper) -- "The Rose That Grew from Concrete" (Eloquent Souls)
O5 (Flashbacks) -- "Like I Could Throw Off Sparks" (Polychrome Heroics: Rutledge)

Reindeer Plush
Prompt: reindeer
Summary: I decorated a color-it-yourself reindeer plush from the thrift store.
A/N: I don't at this exact moment have a way of sharing pictures of it, but I shall describe it as best I can. The plush's base color is white and came with water soluble markers to decorate it and was covered in line art, like a soft 3D coloring book page. On its flank, it has holly berries on each side, kind of like a cutie mark on a My Little Pony, which I colored the traditional red and green. Its body and back of its ears are dotted with stars, which I colored yellow. Around its ankles, it has three decorative bands, the top of which I made red and white, the middle band is yellow, and the bottom one is green. The reindeer also has a striped collar, which I did in green and yellow, with a red bow in the center. I also made its nose, cheeks, and inner ears red, mostly because I lacked pink. I left the hooves and main body white. The antlers came in brown already. The markers it came with where red, orange, yellow, green, and purple. In theory, you can wash and redecorate the toy repeatedly as long as you use the markers it came with (or, I would assume, other water soluble markers), but I haven't tested that yet.

Making Christmas
Fandom: crafting/stash busting
Prompt: making Christmas
Summary: Christmas craft supply stash busting session
A/N: I gave myself an allotted time to get as many things done/use up as much of my stash as possible. In that time, I made 4 wreath themed Christmas cards from a partial kit I had been gifted, decorated 3 vending machine dome capsules for use as small present gift boxes, made 3 filled ornaments, decorated 2 foam gingerbread men, and finally finished decorating the mat around a photo of me and Santa.

Christmas Crab
Fandom: recipe
Prompt: crab
Words: 142
Rating: easy
Summary: My family Christmas Crab dip recipe.

Worth the Effort
Fandom: Stargate Atlantis
Prompt: finishing each other's sandwiches
Character |Pair: John Sheppard/Rodney McKay, Daniel Jackson
Words: 261
Rating: Teen & Up
Summary: Rodney was the one that insisted on coming here, he could at least eat the sandwich.
Warnings: None
A/N: For Vexed, congrats on 10 rounds co-hosting together.

The Fireworks Bingo Fest will run July 1-31. It focuses on fireworks, their composition, shows featuring them, and associated summer activities and motifs. While this fest is inspired by explosives for entertainment, many of these prompts also work well for more aggressive applications -- especially if you have a fandom like pirates, wild west, space marines, spyjinks, or cartoon physics where explosions appear often. Welcome to Winter Fest in July. [personal profile] vexed_wench and I ([personal profile] spiralicious) will be your guest host for the month. In honor of this being our 10th Winterfest in July Bingo, we have made a special new prompt list for the occasion. It is the list labeled 10th Anniversary below. The prompts are all themed after the number 10 or anniversaries. You can use these prompts on their own or pair them up with the regular Winterfest themed prompts. The sky is the limit! We had also planned a special 10x10 public bingo card for the truly ambitious, but neither of us had the spoons to make it. Thank you so much for playing with us all of these years. We appreciate all of you.

Also, while neither of us are technically affiliated with [community profile] seasonofkink, we would like to also give them a shout out this year, as it is currently their 10th bingo round as well right now, and it's also their last round. Their sign ups started in June, but they continue until right before the deadline at the end of September. They also allow fills that double dip into another challenge, as long as the other challenge allows it (which we do). So, if you are interested in either their bingo or crossing over some kink bingo with your Winterfest fun, go check them out and give them some love! (Please read all of their rules and guidelines before requesting a card there.)

Greetings from my phone! Thank you everyone who has participated in the Winter Fest in July bingo so far, we appreciate every one of you, and thank you to everyone who commented on Vexed's post about what we haven't been around to cheer you on as we would like, we feel loved.

I just wanted to clarify, we are not closing the bingo early. You still have until the end of the month to finish up in time to get a personalized banner. But as always we will have the genetic banner for people who finish later because we understand life happens. We just wanted to let you know why we haven't been around and warn that banners will be late.

Happy creating!
