In the United States, all works first published in 1929 and sound recordings from 1924 are now available for adaption, performance, and copying. This means that everything published in the 1920s in now public domain. This includes the first Mickey Mouse talkies, the original versions of Popey, Winnie the Pooh, and Tintin.

In other parts of the world, coming into the public domain are works by people who died in 1954, for countries with a copyright term of “life plus 70 years” (e.g. UK, Russia, most of EU and South America); and works by people who died in 1974, for countries with a term of “life plus 50 years” (e.g. New Zealand, and most of Africa and Asia).

This fest will run from January 1-31 and I'll provide 3x3 public cards to get y'all started.

Hi everyone! Welcome to the Public Domain Day Bingo fest for 2024. On January 1st, a whole lot of creative works come into the public domain, including Steamboat Willie, The Circus, The Mystery of the Blue Train, and The House at Pooh Corner. In the United States, all works first published in 1928 are now available for adaption, performance, and copying. I tried my best to make it a diverse list, but I had a hard time finding comprehensive lists of all the works available, and I'm not overly familiar with most of the works. I did my best to find things that would make good prompts, but you are always free to make your own cards or peruse some of the links I've included for more works to add.

In other parts of the world, coming into the public domain are works by people who died in 1953, for countries with a copyright term of “life plus 70 years” (e.g. UK, Russia, most of EU and South America); and works by people who died in 1973, for countries with a term of “life plus 50 years” (e.g. New Zealand, and most of Africa and Asia).

This fest will run from January 1-31 and I'll provide 3x3 public cards, plus one 5x5 mixed card to get everyone started.

I have made blackout on my 1-1-23 card for the Public Domain Day Bingo fest. \o/ This month my Poetry Fishbowl theme was "Short Forms" and a lot of these are already sponsored and posted so you can see them. :D A bunch are haiku, so those are cited by their first line. I also launched a new series, A Poesy of Obscure Sorrows, and two of out of those three poems are already up.

I really enjoyed this fest and would love to see it repeated in the future, since it'll never be the same twice as new works get released.

I meant to get this up a little earlier, but here we go.

On January 1st, a whole slew of things come into the public domain, including the last of the Sherlock Holmes stories. In the United States, all works first published in 1927 are now available for adaption, performance, and copying. Because those are the easiest lists to find, that's what I focused on. I'm only human so before you send something to an agent, double check.

In other parts of the world, coming into the public domain are works by people who died in 1952, for countries with a copyright term of “life plus 70 years” (e.g. UK, Russia, most of EU and South America); and works by people who died in 1972, for countries with a term of “life plus 50 years” (e.g. New Zealand, and most of Africa and Asia).

This fest will run from January 1-31 and I'll provide 3x3 public cards to get y'all started.
