I've gotten three things started and plotted, but they're NOT short, and I just didn't have the time to finish them.

Go you! I like your long things, even if they take time to develop. You are definitely getting better at writing longer story arcs. That takes practice. I'm still much better at short than long, but good practice makes good progress.
