Title: Far From the Beach
Prompt: Shell
Fandom: none
Art: Photography/shot with an Apple 10 iPhone
Rating: G
Summary: Shell found at the Jones Beach Marina
Author’s Note: While out at the marina, looking for ducks and other birds to take pix of, I wandered around the dock and saw a shell in the grass when I walked along the wall. There’s like a retaining wall by the dock and on top is a small park-like area with a few tables and a gazebo, there’s also a small parking lot, and lots of grass and native plants that attract wild birds. Anyways, I saw the shell, whipped out my phone and took a picture of it.
Title: So Close, Yet So Far
Prompt: Sunset
Fandom: none
Art: Photography/shot with an Apple 10 iPhone
Rating: G
Summary: Sunset taken from the balcony of the cruise ship I was on of the water around Belize.
Author’s Note: While on a cruise this past February, we stopped at Belize, well the water around it as they didn’t have a port large enough for our ship. It was an hour and a half boat ride there and back, which seemed like a waste, since I really only wanted to get off and walk on the dock so I could say I was there. Especially, since we were told that crime was up and that it wasn’t safe for tourists. That said, a lot of people did go there, so who knows? So I took a pic of what we could see to remember that I was so close.
Title: Death of a Living Fossil
Prompt: Death
Fandom: none
Art: Photography/shot with an Apple 10 iPhone
Rating: G
Summary: Long dead horseshoe crab that I found on the beach, while waiting for the sun to set during a photo shoot.
Author’s Note: I went with Dad to Short Beach so he could take pix of the sunset and while we were waiting for the sun to set, I wandered around. I saw this dead horseshoe crab so I took a pic of it. I thought it was pretty cool as they’re living fossils. The weird thing is, I’ve seen more dead ones sadly, than living ones.
Title: Ginger
Prompt: Animal
Fandom: none
Art: Photography/shot with an Apple 10 iPhone
Rating: G
Summary: Kira might be a Disney princess… Seriously, this is Ginger, my “pet” wild bunny.
Author’s Note: For the past three or four years, we have had an Eastern Cottontail that I call Ginger, living in our backyard. I started talking to her out the kitchen window and from there whenever I saw her outside whenever I was also outside, so she’s used to the sound of my voice. She got to be pretty trusting of us, enough to come out of hiding to graze several feet away from us, while we were barbequing. She’s also come up to me, while maintaining a healthy 2 foot away distance, when I was filling the bird feeders as she likes to eat the seeds I throw on the ground for the doves. I think she was trying to get me to hurry up and put out some seed. She’s also flopped down in front of me, which according to Dizzojay, who has a pair of bunnies named Nutmeg and Juniper, whenever bunnies flop, it means they really trust you. (YAY!) She also had a baby this summer, that we only saw when she was weaning it. It was like she called it out to show us, as we never saw the baby again after that, but I like to think Sugar (what I call it) is one the bunnies on my block. I believe she had them in the corner of the yard near the back gate. We spent an afternoon watching her leap over the vegetation there (I let it grow wild there) several times. Another bunny had shown up during all that and whether it’s Sugar’s daddy, or a random rabbit is anyone’s guess.
