Amnesty Fest and Winter Fest

I'm your host for December.

First we have the yearly Amnesty Fest. Please take this time to finish-up any bingo cards you have outstanding. I'm sure I'm not alone in having at least one card that didn't get finished during the month of the original fest. Please also remember that this is a low stress community and fests never really end.

Also, it's that time of year. So I thought it would be fun to have a Winter Fest as well. You can write anything that fits into winter, be it a winter holiday or some other winter themed activity. You can either use one of the public cards or make your own from this site: http://an.owomoyela.net/fun/bingo_generator.

The public cards are 2x2 so as many people as possible can make a bingo.

I understand that. I had a story last year that was a lot longer than I anticipated and it felt good to finish it. 20 chapters was a lot for me. I usually write a lot shorter pieces.

*nods* WOW! I tend to go with much shorter fics, although I did wriote something with a friend that turned out to be around 17 (I forget the exact number) chapters. I think my preference comes from writing for several comms, in the past, that had specific word counts, usually around 888 words.Twenty chapters is awesome! That's pretty a novel you've written there! *is impressed*

It was close to a novella. It turned out to be just under 10,000 words which for me was a huge piece of fic. I usually write very short fiction as well. I'm curious to see how my writing goes this year.

What an accomplishment!

By the way, if you want to write longer things, I recommend mass production. Sit down and knock out a whole stack of long things, as fast as you can. Do a decent job but don't obsess over details -- fanfic is perfect for this kind of practice. After a while it will just stop seeming long. That's exactly the experience I had with writing classes for the Grey School of Wizardry, which were often around 10,000 words.

I wonder if that would work for me. I don't know if I'm capable of not editing as I write. I can't seem to be able to break myself of that habit.

Awesomeness!! :D I've only 2 fics around 10K & 1 that went to around 26K, not including the chapter story as I think that's longer. I tend to average around 5K when writing, unless there's a specific word count. *nods* I hope to write more this year too, but who knows how things will go? XD

My long fic was a chapter fic, too. After last year, I'm afraid to plan as well, but I sucked it up and made a rather lengthy goal list for this year. One can hope.

Yeah. I find I do better if I write when the mood hits. That's great you have a huge list of goals for the year! I hope you get through it by year's end! :D

That's why I make a long list of goals and then see how many I can meet. I'm happier with many opportunities to succeed than only one or a few. It's more flexible.
