Announcing the May Trope Mayhem Prompt List for 2025!

Announcing the May Trope Mayhem Prompt List for 2025!

May Trope Mayhem is a multi-fandom/original creation event open to writers, artists, and creators of all kinds! Our creators have shared their favorite tropes, and we’ve put together a list of 31, one per day through the month of May. We encourage creators to join us for this month of fun tropey mayhem.
Our goal is to promote motivation and help with habit building, so we’re encouraging authors to keep their ficlets under 1,000 words, artists to stick to making just a sketch, gif makers to only do a single image, etc., as applicable to whatever you’re making.

2025 Bingo

This entry over at [community profile] goals_on_dw has a blank 2025 bingo card for you to fill with whatever you wish, around a center square that says "Survive."  You could do New Year's resolutions, crazy things politicians do or say, fanfics you hope to write, fanart you'd love to find, anything.

Demoncember

[personal profile] mentat_emulator on [community profile] eggbug_writes has posted a list of demon-based prompts for Demoncember with the format "Demon who..." for anyone to use.  If you're disappointed that this month has only the Amnesty Fest instead of a thematic fest with prompts, this is one option to fill the gap.  That community is great for prompts in general.

Speculative Fiction Bingo Challenge

r/Fantasy's annual speculative fiction bingo challenge is up on Reddit.

It's a reading challenge, a reading party, a reading marathon, and YOU are welcome to join in on our nonsense!

r/Fantasy Book Bingo is a yearly reading challenge within our community. Its one-year mission: to explore strange new worlds, to seek out new authors and books, to boldly go where few readers have gone before . . . (well, many actually because this is the TENTH year of our existence).

The core of this challenge is encouraging readers to step out of their comfort zones, discover amazing new reads, and motivate everyone to keep up on their reading throughout the year

Domaystic

[personal profile] fadedwings posted this awesome "Domaystic" prompt list if anyone is into "slice of life" stuff.

Multifandom Communities on Dreamwidth

[personal profile] lee_bella has posted a terrific list of multifandom communities over on [community profile] potterfests.  Some of these may overlap with your bingo activities here, while others offer different inspiration and opportunities.

Romance Challenge

[community profile] story_works has posted a Romance Challenge that runs until March 1.  Fills that you create for the Valentines Fest here will likely qualify for that also if you want more exposure.

Twitter Exodus

Twitter faces a mass exodus.

For people on any other service, this is an opportunity to scoop new users. Listen to why people are leaving Twitter. Does your favorite service meet any of those needs? If so, encourage people to move there instead. Gathering more of your friends together will make any service more fun to use.

For example, many people are complaining about hate speech and poor privacy tools that don't let them block it. Dreamwidth offers private blogs, themed communities, and pretty robust moderation tools that let you delete comments you don't want on your blog or block people so they can't bother you. Want a hate-free online space? It's not that hard to make one. Want to make tweet-sized blog posts? Some people do that here, especially with certain formats like "3 Things Make a Post" in various blogs or "Just One Thing" on [community profile] awesomeers. Looking for communities on your favorite topics? Check out [community profile] followfriday for suggestions. You can also use the search box in your blog header for interests.

Some resources that you can share or reblog for new users to find:

* Dev Getting Started (for the code)

* dreamwidth 101: the (sort of) fast version

* Getting Started on DW (from LiveJournal)

* how to dreamwidth: a primer

* So you're into BNHA and just created a Dreamwidth account

* A Tumblr User's Guide to Dreamwidth

I have not seen a DW guide for Twitter users, so if you know of one, please share the URL so I can link to it. Other guides are welcome too.

EDIT 11/30/22 -- I have continued editing the version of this post on my own blog.  There is also now a community for [community profile] twitter_refugees.

Anamnesis

[personal profile] singedsun is running a writing game called Anamnesis using Tarot cards as prompts.  It's not bingo, but I thought it might appeal to folks who like bingo prompts.

Visual Bingo

[personal profile] catness made a visual bingo card for different activities, and included the simple Python script for it.  This seems like something that could be fun to do here.

Fluff Bingo

Check out [community profile] fluffbingo for prompts about the lighter side of romance.  Fanfic and original characters welcome.  February 5 is the last day to sign up for this quarter though.

Muse Fusion Bingo

We are now taking prompts for the Torn World Muse Fusion Bingo.  (New to Torn World?  Start here!)  Prompters are encouraged to leave 5-10 prompts, which may be specific to Torn World or generic, whichever you prefer.  A selection of prompts will be randomly sorted onto a bingo card, to be played collectively by Torn World creators.  (Not a creator yet?  Join us!)  There will be individual (for prompters and for creators) and collective prizes depending on how much activity occurs.
