It seems an odd name for a theme in November, which is usually taken up with stories about family togetherness, Thanksgiving, and other fluff. But think honestly about your last big family get together-- did everything go well? Really? I can recount incidents like 'Cooking the Turkey With Giblets Bagged Inside' even to a preschool audience, and that's one of our LEAST chaotic holiday disasters!

So let's take a gently humorous look (or more serious, I'm not setting limits!) at when things go WRONG in the universe. Negative coping skills (like stress eating, or pulling one's hair) often appear in such times, but then again, so do positive ones, and I'll be the firs to admit that I'd love to see MORE examples of positive coping in our culture's entertainment! That's one reason I participate in Allbingo, actually.

Bear in mind that I tell that turkey disaster story with a grin when you look at the prompt choices on the master list, and never think I'm suggesting ONLY one interpretation of things! I tried picking and choosing from the excellent lists in the categories of :positive coping techniques, negative coping techniques, hurt/comfort, and desperate situations… and lost about an hour fiddling with them, trying to get them DOWN to a single list-size while still somewhat proportionally representing each list. If you don't like the public card, ANY of those, unmodified, are likely to give you a very good array of options.

My list (which may include variations on the lists mentioned above) is used to create the public card:

mechanical trouble, missing paperwork, lost in translation, wrong place, wrong impression, What did you say?, It could've worked BUT-, failed inspection, Oh no they DIDN'T, I never said THAT, fumbling for words, accidental… everything!, talking out a problem, re-defining pieces of a bigger problem, try it for a moment, limiting the damage, asking for help (and getting it), group effort, verbal self-defense, refusing to participate, be gentle with yourself, remember to breathe!, emotional overload, hyper-focusing, overlooking useful elements, nagging, neglect, hiding in the background, emotional sabotage, under-valuing skills, veiled indifference, no-win scenario, personality clash, missed opportunity, forgotten favor, missing ingredient, failing to plan ahead, sink or swim, over one's head, lost, overwhelmed, confused, teamwork, reaching beyond a limitation, how did it start?, chaos with a twist, seeking shelter, emotional endurance, practical prayer, comforting touch, trust someone

The public bingo card:
failing to plan ahead Oh no they DIDN'T fumbling for words forgotten favor neglect
I never said THAT trust someone hyper-focusing chaos with a twist over one's head
hiding in the background refusing to participate Disaster! nagging reaching beyond a limitation
emotional endurance accidental… everything! teamwork how did it start? lost
verbal self-defense personality clash mechanical trouble talking out a problem no-win scenario

The code:
