>> No matter how many stories I write in a given month, they are either entirely unrelated to that month's theme, or running like a broken tap, so I end up shrugging and going, "Next story... Next story!" <<
Yeah, I know how it goes.

* I always look through the bingo squares to see if anything matches the prompts I get in a fishbowl.
* I've had the best luck with cottoncandy prompts. Pay attention to whatever topics you get more fills in.
* Certain categories are much easier to write to because they are so adaptable to different stories. Emotions, colors, that sort of thing.
* Plotty prompts, like the hurt/comfort stuff, are good for generating stories all by themselves. If you have time to write but don't know what to pick, grab one of those.
* If I open a prompt call and I'm NOT getting prompts yet, I'll pick a square -- especially if it's in a line where I've already got other fills -- and just start writing.
* If I want to focus explicitly on the bingo, I can sit down and whack out several short pieces just going down whatever looks like the easiest line to fill. You've written drabbles, haven't you? Haiku is another easy short one, if you have a card of nature or color prompts.
* Demifiction can be great for shorter things too. Postcards, product labels -- you could probably blackout on the contents of those delivery bags in the Berettaflies storyline. I think it only took me half an hour or an hour to do the batch I made for Haruko.
I hope this helps.
