This community calendar provides a place to organize events in
allbingo. Ideally, there will be periodic fests and challenges on different themes, organized by different people. If you would like to run an event here, please speak up! See the calendars from 2014 and 2015 for ideas.
Organizing an Event
This community is a low-traffic, low-pressure opportunity to organize an activity. Anyone can volunteer to host something. Two or more people can cohost the same event; this is a good idea if you want to participate but your availability varies. The requirements are pretty simple:
1) Pick a theme and a timespan. Ideally, aim for a month that doesn't already have an activity, but time-sensitive events may be allowed closer together as needed. If you're not sure of people's interest, you could post a query first and ask, especially if you have several possible themes or times in mind. Declare your interest so that your event can be added to the schedule.
2) Post details for the parameters of the event. This needs to include at least the beginning and end dates, along with the theme. It helps to mention any unusual bingo patterns, communities, or prompt lists that would suit the event. You may want to generate and include a "public" card that anyone can use. You can use < textarea > before the card code and < / textarea > (remove the spaces) after the card code to create a box of code that people can copy to put the public card on their own blog. The same code box can be used to offer a list of thematic prompts for anyone wishing to make their own card from similar motifs.
Typically the event host will make an advance announcement about two weeks before the fest opens, with such things as a public card or a suggestion of where else to get an appropriate card, so that people can start making content. Then make an "event open" post on the first day it's open.
3) Keep an eye on the activity. Ideally, answer questions about the event, encourage people to participate, cheer for the ones who post a bingo, etc. If an argument breaks out, remind people to play nice. You might want to do a little promotion in other relevant venues, but it's not required. It helps to make a wrapup post at the end of the fest too.

Re: July
Date: 2016-05-10 10:47 pm (UTC)There is currently a fest for October. You may stack yours with that if you wish; this community allows overlapping fests. However, both September and November are open if you would prefer to move your Fall Festival. Let me know what you want to do.

Date: 2016-06-25 12:59 am (UTC)If you check the Bingo Card Generator, there is already a Music theme. See whether that has the kind of prompts you want. If not, you have plenty of time to make a different musical one.

Date: 2016-06-25 01:22 am (UTC)I've seen some communities use song titles or lyric phrases as prompts, which can be fun. There are lots of possibilities.
Re: December
Date: 2016-06-25 01:54 am (UTC)Several years back, we did something with song titles as prompts for a comm I helped run. We had a lot of fun with it. :D There's so many possibilities like you said! :D
Re: December
Date: 2016-06-25 01:59 am (UTC)That's a good idea. Thanks for chipping in.

I have really enjoyed that motif in communities that use it, especially if it's mixed in with other prompts. They're harder for me to use in what I do, but I like how they are also very different from the more typical one-word prompts.
Re: December
Date: 2016-06-25 02:48 am (UTC)Yeah? Well, hopefully, you can use them with what you do, since all you need is the spirit of the prompt. Say the prompt was "Happy Birthday." You don't have to have the characters singing the song to someone, they could be watching a game show & that was the answer to the question, or it could be about someone's surprise party, or it could be a character saying sarcastically to someone, really anything that says "Happy Birthday" to you of we used song titles. If we went with lyrics, "Dashing through the snow in a one horse open sleigh" could be about a snow globe, or a window display, or it's sooo HOT outside & the air isn't working, that they're imagining it's winter & they're enjoying a romantic sleigh ride. I remember you wrote something about a horse, maybe it's the sleigh ride from the horse's POV.
