This community calendar provides a place to organize events in
allbingo. Ideally, there will be periodic fests and challenges on different themes, organized by different people. If you would like to run an event here, please speak up! See the 2014 Community Calendar for ideas.
Organizing an Event
This community is a low-traffic, low-pressure opportunity to organize an activity. Anyone can volunteer to host something. Two or more people can cohost the same event; this is a good idea if you want to participate but your availability varies. The requirements are pretty simple:
1) Pick a theme and a timespan. Ideally, aim for a month that doesn't already have an activity, but time-sensitive events may be allowed closer together as needed. If you're not sure of people's interest, you could post a query first and ask, especially if you have several possible themes or times in mind. Declare your interest so that your event can be added to the schedule.
2) Post details for the parameters of the event. This needs to include at least the beginning and end dates, along with the theme. It helps to mention any unusual bingo patterns, communities, or prompt lists that would suit the event. You may want to generate and include a "public" card that anyone can use. You can use < textarea > before the card code and < / textarea > (remove the spaces) after the card code to create a box of code that people can copy to put the public card on their own blog. The same code box can be used to offer a list of thematic prompts for anyone wishing to make their own card from similar motifs.
Typically the event host will make an advance announcement about two weeks before the fest opens, with such things as a public card or a suggestion of where else to get an appropriate card, so that people can start making content. Then make an "event open" post on the first day it's open.
3) Keep an eye on the activity. Ideally, answer questions about the event, encourage people to participate, cheer for the ones who post a bingo, etc. If an argument breaks out, remind people to play nice. You might want to do a little promotion in other relevant venues, but it's not required. It helps to make a wrapup post at the end of the fest too.

July 2015
Winter Fest in July from July 1-31 hosted by
vexed_wench and/or other people

The fest will cover all winter holidays: Christmas, Hanukkah, Kwanzaa, Yule, Winter, New Year Eve/Day, etc.
August 2015
As You Like It fest from August 1-31 hosted by
dialecticdreamer
The point of this month's theme is to do what YOU want. Any five prompts, in any location on the card, will work. More importantly, for those who've been trying to fill an older card but didn't quite manage a bingo, you can also use prompts from DIFFERENT cards! Pick and choose what you want, and give yourself a breather. If you've almost got blackout on a card, or if you're staring at a card so random Fate was probably giggling at you, this is YOUR theme.

Date: 2015-05-01 01:52 am (UTC)Part of me worries I have to many months claimed.
It was fun to plot the Winter Holidays without the rush.
Winter Fest in July this time around.
Christmas, Hanukkah, Kwanzaa, Yule, Winter, New Year Eve/Day.
Hmm...
Date: 2015-05-01 02:27 am (UTC)If you're getting requests for a specific fest, then that's definitely worth doing.
>> Part of me worries I have to many months claimed. <<
Well, you do have four already, including one for June. But there are still several months available. We have multiple people hosting fests but mostly it is the same handful of people, which means if we want a fest every month then folks will have to do several each. If we had a bunch of people lining up, I might suggest sharing fests or spacing your claims out more.
On the other hoof, nothing says we can have ONLY one fest per month, especially if people staggered theirs or somebody wanted to run a longer fest. It's flexible.

Coooooool.
Tell you what, I'll pencil in Winter Fest in July, but note that it is open to other or additional hosts. If nobody else speaks up, you can have it to yourself.
