2025 Public Domain Day Bingo Fest

In the United States, all works first published in 1929 and sound recordings from 1924 are now available for adaption, performance, and copying. This means that everything published in the 1920s in now public domain. This includes the first Mickey Mouse talkies, the original versions of Popey, Winnie the Pooh, and Tintin.

In other parts of the world, coming into the public domain are works by people who died in 1954, for countries with a copyright term of “life plus 70 years” (e.g. UK, Russia, most of EU and South America); and works by people who died in 1974, for countries with a term of “life plus 50 years” (e.g. New Zealand, and most of Africa and Asia).

This fest will run from January 1-31 and I'll provide 3x3 public cards to get y'all started.

E piorou tudo após uma certa empresa de filmes ir na justiça e mudar toda a lei em benefício próprio só para não perder sua preciosa marca (o que só postergou o inevitável). E é mais do que politicagem, é quase uma tentativa de destruir as chances de novas obras ou interpretações. Tudo questão de poder e dinheiro. Quanto ao Bingo fui saber ontem que ele existia *risos*

I didn't even do a bingo for my first card (the Metropolis drabble is alive in my head, just not on paper... yet), but I'm really excited because there's so many cool films that are now public domain and I can write for them here.

You can claim it whenever you finish it. There's no hard deadline. About the most we have here is that some fests have an offer of getting a personalized banner if you complete a bingo within the main timeframe.

I love the theme of this bingo!

I do have a question, and would appreciate somone's opinion on it: do we have to create something related to these works/their plots, or something inspired by their names?

You can do either, or a mix of both. I usually just use the title as inspiration. But at least one person has a goal of writing entirely fandoms in the public domain!

Gonna be honest, aside from the big famous works, I just went down the lists and pickod out titles that sounded interesting or amusing. So, yeah, you totally can just use the names as inspiration. I included links to the lists if you want to go looking, but it's purely optional.
