Community Calendar for 2018
This community calendar provides a place to organize events in
allbingo. Ideally, there will be periodic fests and challenges on different themes, organized by different people. If you would like to run an event here, please speak up! See the calendars from 2014, 2015, 2016, and 2017 for ideas.
Organizing an Event
This community is a low-traffic, low-pressure opportunity to organize an activity. Anyone can volunteer to host something. Two or more people can cohost the same event; this is a good idea if you want to participate but your availability varies. The requirements are pretty simple:
1) Pick a theme and a timespan. Ideally, aim for a month that doesn't already have an activity, but time-sensitive events may be allowed closer together as needed. If you're not sure of people's interest, you could post a query first and ask, especially if you have several possible themes or times in mind. Declare your interest so that your event can be added to the schedule.
2) Post details for the parameters of the event. This needs to include at least the beginning and end dates, along with the theme. It helps to mention any unusual bingo patterns, communities, or prompt lists that would suit the event. You may want to generate and include a "public" card that anyone can use. You can use < textarea > before the card code and < / textarea > (remove the spaces) after the card code to create a box of code that people can copy to put the public card on their own blog. The same code box can be used to offer a list of thematic prompts for anyone wishing to make their own card from similar motifs.
Typically the event host will make an advance announcement about two weeks before the fest opens, with such things as a public card or a suggestion of where else to get an appropriate card, so that people can start making content. Then make an "event open" post on the first day it's open.
3) Keep an eye on the activity. Ideally, answer questions about the event, encourage people to participate, cheer for the ones who post a bingo, etc. If an argument breaks out, remind people to play nice. You might want to do a little promotion in other relevant venues, but it's not required. It helps to make a wrapup post at the end of the fest too.

Thank you!

Let’s see: there will be a more normal 4x4 card offered, as well as an option for “bingo challenges”, since the apocalypse - and fairies - are challenging.
Thank you!
Re: Thank you!
Also giggling about “I have placed the Apocalypse in January”.
Re: Thank you!
That's great. We also have some relevant prompt lists already in the Bingo Card Generator if you want to look up those.
>> Also giggling about “I have placed the Apocalypse in January”. <<
LOL yes.
Re: Thank you!
*sheepish* that WOULD be the reasonable place to start, wouldn’t it?
Re: Thank you!

I'm thinking animals, nature stuff like trees, bodies of water, other things...maybe also add in the wild wood tarot lists from the generator.
Thank you!
Re: Thank you!

I'll generalize a card (either 3x3 or 5x5, I don't know yet), so that it can also be used for other fandoms.
I'm open for a co-host if anyone wants to join?
Thank you!
Slated. It will be fun to do a new theme!

That sounds great.

Cool, let me know if anyone takes you up on this.

Well, since March is open, and since I usually contribute at least one bingo challenge during the year, I wonder if anybody's ever done a "slice of life" bingo? I'll have to cook up a prompt list for it, but it shouldn't be too hard.
Thoughts
Potentially useful lists on the generator:
Birthdays
Cottoncandy Bingo
Childhood Experiences
Emotions
Food
Gentle Fiction
Holidays
People-watching
Positive Coping Techniques
Types of Family
Little Actions for Self-Care
Little Housekeeping Tasks

Alas!
Possible Bingo in June
a couple of days ago I realized there was no Bingo (that I know of, I checked around and it seems I am right) for Winteriron (Marvel Cinematic Universe, BUcky Barnes/Tony Stark).
I did some research and I found Bingo generators, and this community. Would it be okay if the Winteriron Bingo was hosted here, in June? I have someone helping me with making a suitable prompt list for the bingo generator, but I would be the one doing the posting etc.
Would that be okay?
I'd like to give participants 6 months to finish their cards (then amnesty) and I will open a collection on AO3 for it, and it would be a 5x5 card (two main categories: kinky/smut and not kinky/not smut).
Let me know your thoughts, and if it's okay! Of course, fine if it's not :) I'm newish to organizing something like this, so feel free to offer any thoughts :)
Thanks!
Re: Possible Bingo in June
That's quite a gap.

Go for it. I'll put you on the calendar.
We have a very flexible Bingo Card Generator if you want to check out that one. Among the prompt lists already available are hurt/comfort, desperate situations, gentle fiction, kinks, negative coping techniques, people with disabilities, positive coping techniques, problems that can't be solved by hitting, sex & romance, and superpowers. You might want to draw some prompts from there.
>>I'd like to give participants 6 months to finish their cards (then amnesty) and I will open a collection on AO3 for it, and it would be a 5x5 card (two main categories: kinky/smut and not kinky/not smut).<<
That sounds great. I don't think we've done a character-focused fest before, so this should be exciting. If you can pull in new people from outside this community, so much the better. Some thoughts ...
* Offering the option of Bucky/Tony (sex or romance) and Bucky&Tony (friendship or other platonic) would go well with your plans to offer smut and non-smut cards, thus appealing to a wider range of participants.
* If you want to make the fest accessible to people who don't write Winteriron fanfic, without diluting the fest for those who do, you could add a batch of prompts with related themes but not naming motifs unique to the pairing. For example...
Bucky/Tony smut: "Bucky wants to get screwed by the Iron Man suit"
Bucky/Tony non-smut: "Tony introduces Bucky to Twinkies"
Abstract: "forge" "iron" "snow" "frozen" "brainwashing" "nightmares" "working around disability" "adaptive equipment"
Details of the fest are up to you as the host.
Re: Possible Bingo in June
This is all very exciting.
Yes, the Bingo generator you linked me to is one of the two I found! Those available lists are great, thank you for pointing it out, makes it all much easier, we will definitely use it.
I hope to pull in people from the sub-fandom, yes :) *fingers crossed*
Thanks for all your suggestions, again, very useful. I will happily go plot with my co-conspirator. Forgive me in advance for future questions :)

I am considering maybe running a small challenge here (on the fence between three themes), but the two free months are absolutely not great for me.
Could we work something out or should I just wait and see if it works out next year?
The theme would either be "sentient AIs and artificial/created beings" (phrasing still to be perfected), "Germans who are not Nazis" or a "1000 words or less" challenge. (Or maybe a combination of two of them but that could be too restrictive.)

Thoughts
Okay ...
>> Could we work something out or should I just wait and see if it works out next year? <<
There is no restriction on how many fests can run at once. The one we have running this month is actually a long one, and it's still early June, so if you want to launch one immediately then you could do that. Or you could double up with a later month, or wait until next year. If you double up, I suggest choosing a theme that is very different from the slated one.
>> The theme would either be "sentient AIs and artificial/created beings" (phrasing still to be perfected), <<
That sounds awesome. I have several series that would fit that. :D
>> "Germans who are not Nazis" <<
Either of the first two themes would make a fine contrast against next month's "Winterfest in July."
>> or a "1000 words or less" challenge. (Or maybe a combination of two of them but that could be too restrictive.) <<
You could make "1000 words or less" an achievement for either of the other two, thus optional. Or you could put it up this month as something that could be finished quickly.
For future reference, some time around November or December is usually when I start slating things for the next year.
Let me know what you decide.
Re: Thoughts
I'm waffling about what to do since I won't be anywhere with guaranteed stable internet for the whole month of July. :/ So while I'd love to dive right in, starting a "normal size" fest now is probably a bad idea since people need some time to write things with a theme fest. I think the rest of June is a little too little time.
So maybe it's best to wait until August or September and run the fest then. I think all my possible themes would contrast okay with the fests planned for those months. The theme ones at least.
What do you think?
Additionally; if I run with the "1000 words or less theme" it would be a comparatively "small" fest.
Re: Thoughts
Re: Thoughts
I agree, that would be a great contrast. Especially the AI theme, which tends to call for science fiction.
I would love to run the "1000 words or less" event in September! I'd like to slate that.
As for doing one of the other two themes in August, could I get back to you on that once I return from the place of unstable internet at the beginning of June? (Only if one person is allowed to host two fests in a year, of course. Otherwise I'll just do the word limit event in September.)
Re: Thoughts
Done!
>> As for doing one of the other two themes in August, could I get back to you on that once I return from the place of unstable internet at the beginning of June? <<
Yes.
>> (Only if one person is allowed to host two fests in a year, of course. Otherwise I'll just do the word limit event in September.) <<
There is not a limit on how many fests one person can do in a year. Ideally, I like to get a mix of people hosting events because people have such different ideas. But I pinch-hit if nobody else takes a month, so that adds up.
