Today begins the new August theme: Birthdays!

First, the basics: The card is a mix of concrete details, events, ideas, and a few unusual influences on one's birthday. Birthdays can create a huge range of emotions and ideas. This month’s theme is “birthday”, but that’s just the spark… let your imagination create fire!

The card list:

candles, cake, present(s), balloons, streamers, wish(es), rain, sunny, anticipation, sharing disappointment, singing, music, party, youth, dinner, movie, aging, birth, milestone, maturity, wisdom, regret, opportunity, argument, friendship, secret, surprise, novelty, childish, thoughtful, sincere, melancholy, playful, family, alone, friend(s), grief/grieving, childhood, tradition, adoption.

The central space reads whatever you set it to say. I used: HAPPY BIRTHDAY

The incomparable [personal profile] magibrain has set this up as a default card! Thank you! The card generator:

The rules of the Birthday Bingo:

The prompts include opportunities for hurt/comfort and a lot of things associated with fluff; I’m not suggesting any limits on the types of stories told, so be creative! Feel free to put a positive spin on a “negative” prompt like ‘melancholy’ or a negative spin on a “positive” prompt like ‘presents’.

Rule one is to have fun, and I want to clarify:

- Fills with images, needle arts, paper crafts, music? GO FOR IT.

- There are NO word count minimums for poetry or prose. If you can create a discrete and distinct scene in six words, I really, really want to read it!

- Word-type fills don't have to be fiction. Poetry, demifiction, song lyrics... I left the options wide open.

May I suggest a new, special bingo style?

Special Bingo style: The BIRTHDAY CANDLE

Must be vertical, and is filled with three typical prompts, one {negation prompt} and one {flame} prompt (clearly, the light atop the candle). These may be filled in ANY ORDER, just to allow for more personal interpretation.

A {negation prompt}: Say the square is “grief/grieving” and you want to write a happy prompt. Just have reference to a /lack/ of grieving, but done in a way which fits the story. When noting the “Birthday candle” bingo, just indicate that a prompt is a {negation}.

A {flame prompt} is one where the prompt takes center stage, a major emphasis in the story.. “Grief/grieving” in this usage would be ideal for hurt/comfort, and involve the central character facing either their own birthday after a recent loss, or the birthday of the person they’re grieving. When noting the “Birthday Candle” bingo, indicate {flame} .

A normal prompt: “Grief/grieving” here could mean pretty much anything the writer wishes.

Well, let's see... theme, card style, keyword list, a NEW type of bingo fill... Oh yeah...

A PRIZE!

To anyone who posts a bingo fill (except myself) on the list, please PM me with an idea, whether you want fiction or demifiction (see my blog for some ideas of what kind of demifiction I write) and give me a couple of days. You'll get back at least 200 words, which won't be published on my blog for at least a week.

Let's all get in and have some FUN with this!
