What I Love About Fireworks: We usually go out for the Fourth of July but this year we've already done one small-town show, our backyard one, and I've got a Poetry Fishbowl on the 4th so the most I'll probably do then is go outside after dark to look for fireworks on the horizons. I can't resist naming the chemicals that make the colors. My parents did it when I was little and it's a family nerd tradition. I love ground fountains for home shows. I like the big starbursts, comets, and swimming fish in the aerials. I'm a huge fan of the art form because I know how hard it is to get shaped effects like arrow-through-heart. This year I saw a lot of great comets and some wonderful off-colors like lime green and peach. I've never seen a ladder to heaven live but would love to. In entertainment, I love firework pranks that are fairly plausible. I confess that I also watch videos about fireworks fails and flushing fireworks down toilets.
What I Hate About Fireworks: I hate the flash-bangs ones, technically called reports.
Favorite Genre(s) Featuring Explosives: Cartoon physics, pirates, and wild west primarily.
Favorite Quote(s) About Blowing Shit Up: Few problems cannot be solved by sufficient application of plastic explosives.
Headcanons: I think Jayne from Firefly would do very well at blowing shit up. Or any Firebender from Avatar: The Last Airbender.
Fireworks I Love To Do Myself: I like ground fountains, Roman candles, and high starbursts. But I have a soft spot for the silly novelties like Pooping Dog and Chicken Laying Eggs.
Favorite Fireworks Holiday: Fourth of July.
Best Fireworks I've Ever Seen: Boomsday in Tennesee. The magnesium waterfall off the bridge was epic. Here at home, well ... this one time we bought color-changing sparklers that fired tiny balls of light like Roman candles. We had a few left at the end of the ritual, I mean like 2-3, so we tossed them in the firepit. And our dragon saved them -- somehow -- for over a year. There'd be one or two going off every ritual fire for the next dozen or so. I'm sure Drake somehow multiplied them to more than we'd even bought, let alone how many we tossed in at the end of the night.
Favorite Blogs or Communities: I haven't really seen any on this topic. The old science communities have gone dormant. :(
About My Blog: I post almost every day, often several times a day. If you're looking for an active blog, this is a good bet; if you're easily overwhelmed, not so much. I post a lot about writing, some nature and current events, especially science news. I share my gardening and birdfeeding experiences, with photos in the warmer months. I'm an active supporter of crowdfunding and often link to other people's projects. My blog has folks from all over the QUILTBAG. I don't hesitate to post dark topics -- some of the philosophical discussions get pretty heavy.
What I Create: I write a lot of original work and some fanwork. A majority is narrative poetry, but I do some fiction too, occasionally demifiction or meta. I've written plenty about fireworks and explosions.
What I'm Looking For: I'm always interested in new friends and readers, or new things to read in favorite topics. I'd enjoy connecting with more artists. If anyone knows of an active community for pyrotechnics or other science, then I'd love to hear about that.
