Introduction Lilly C

I am: [personal profile] lilly_c and am generally quite shy when it comes to introducting myself to others. Hi.

I make: fan fiction and icons, with occassinal wallpapers, music videos and original fiction.

I like: far too much. These days I tend to focus on a few TV based fandoms that I've been involved with for a number of years, and I'm currently rewatching most episodes of Taggart (I don't have all the DVDs yet). Music is my main source of both entertainment and inspiration, most of creative work is inspired in some way by music. Rugby league is my favourite sport, I grew up watching it and for several years worked at the local ground on matchdays when I was living in England.

I play: [community profile] cottoncandy_bingo it was my first time trying a bingo challenge and I admit that I failed rather spectacularly with this because I didn't create anything at all but I am looking forward to attempting it again when round two opens. I rediscovered my card from round one in October and have been using some of the prompts as inspiration. I'm currently doing [community profile] genprompt_bingo and so far I'm managing to create fills. I also take part in several non-bingo prompt challenges too and have got a pile of unused prompts that I go to when I'm stuck with a creative project.

Find me at: [personal profile] lilly_c is my main account which is locked with a few posts set to public.
[community profile] alittleimprobable is my little kingdom where I post all of creative works and everything is public.
[twitter.com profile] l1lly_c my prefered social site.
[archiveofourown.org profile] pr1nce55k1tcat is mainly used for posting prompt fill fics and I also have few personal favourites posted on there too.

About me: I live in the North East of Scotland and have done for almost five years, moving here changed my life for the better. I don't own a TV so any shows I get into are usually via DVDs, either borrowed from the local library or bought second hand from Cex. I have learning disabilities (dyslexia and dyspraxia) and although I tend to just get on with it, I do have bad days with both conditions and usually make grumpy "I can't spell and I'm clumsy" statements when I'm feeling frustrated with the way my brain works. When it comes to writing I started out by writing music while I was still at primary school and over the years got into fan fiction, although I loved working on my music I fell out of love with the process and I do find that doing something creative helps to improve my written vocabulary. I've also written two articles on self injury for the annual awareness day. Around 8 years ago I went through an extremely difficult patch and wrote poetry to reflect what was going on but I never posted them online.

(I could have worded all of this so much better. Oh well.)

>> I am: [personal profile] lilly_c and am generally quite shy when it comes to introducting myself to others. <<

I'm so glad you spoke up and joined the community here.

>> I make: fan fiction and icons, with occassinal wallpapers, music videos and original fiction. <<

A couple of different folks have made community icons, and icons to match a few of our achievements. If you enjoy making icons and wallpapers, you might think about adding more for a favorite achievement.

>> Music is my main source of both entertainment and inspiration, most of creative work is inspired in some way by music. <<

The Bingo Card Generator has a music-themed prompt list. You might also like [community profile] rainbowlists which has a number of lists based on TV shows or song titles.

>> I play: [community profile] cottoncandy_bingo it was my first time trying a bingo challenge and I admit that I failed rather spectacularly with this because I didn't create anything at all but I am looking forward to attempting it again when round two opens.
<<

That was my first bingo fest too! I was so disappointed when it skipped 2013, and I'm eagerly awaiting the chance for a new card on Feb. 1. I tried to go for blackout and it took a really long time. Later I learned to request a fresh card when I earn the first bingo, so I always have plenty of prompts to work with. It takes practice to learn how to use a new inspirational tool.

>> I rediscovered my card from round one in October and have been using some of the prompts as inspiration. <<

If you make bingo on that card, you can post your claim here. It's one of the things I made this community for, so folks can reuse older cards.

>> I live in the North East of Scotland and have done for almost five years, moving here changed my life for the better. <<

That's a lovely place.

>> I have learning disabilities (dyslexia and dyspraxia) and although I tend to just get on with it, I do have bad days with both conditions and usually make grumpy "I can't spell and I'm clumsy" statements when I'm feeling frustrated with the way my brain works. <<

Yes, brainweasels are frustrating.

Did you know there are dyslexic fonts now? OpenDyslexic and Dyslexie are some of them. Beeline Reader is a color-gradient program.

>> I do find that doing something creative helps to improve my written vocabulary. <<

[community profile] rainbowlists is great for vocabulary too. I've even found an occasional word there that I didn't recognize, and my vocabulary is huge. Another favorite site is The Phrontistery.

I particularly enjoy writing poems inspired by a specific word. Some of my examples:
"Smultronstallet"
"Cimaruta"
"Saudades"
"Piraan"

>> I've also written two articles on self injury for the annual awareness day. <<

When is the awareness day? Do you have links to your articles? This is something I've written about elsewhere.

>> Around 8 years ago I went through an extremely difficult patch and wrote poetry to reflect what was going on but I never posted them online. <<

There are many reasons for writing. Catharsis and self-exploration are perfectly good ones. Not everything needs to be shared, although many people do enjoy posting their work. It's all fine.

>> (I could have worded all of this so much better. Oh well.) <<

It made perfect sense to me.

>> I'm glad I spoke up too, it is something I'm aiming to get better at especially online. <<

That's good to hear.

>> With icons I'd more than likely be making ones with general achievements rather than fandom specific at the I'm not too sure when it'll be because my mojo for icons seems to have disappeared. <<

No problem. Everything is welcome, and there's no pressure.

>> Part of why I struggled with it the first time was that I was trying too hard to make a single line in one attempt and thinking that way stifled my creative process. Since I started using my old prompts, I've found it easier to work on one square at a time and not think about making a line. <<

My mistake was waiting too long to request a new card, trying for blackout. Since I've learned more about how to use bingo cards with my existing projects, now I ask for a new one after I've made one bingo or the card is filling up ... which usually happens around the same time. I don't always try to fill a line; more often I just write fills as I get inspired and so I wind up with lots of random squares until a bingo happens.

>> I'd heard about the special fonts but didn't know where to get them from. <<

I hope the extra links have helped. I find Arial easiest to read, although I do like some of the new dyslexic fonts and I am keeping an eye on that category.

>> Self Injury Awareness Day is the 1st of March, LifeSigns do a lot of work to raise awareness, end stigma and educate people about it. My articles are here and here. <<

Thanks! I have written that down so I can watch for news then. I appreciated reading your posts.

As for stigma, I'm pretty sure that shaming people never helps solve their problems, and that adding insult to injury is just vicious.
