Fireworks Meet and Greet
Lots of folks want to see more activity on Dreamwidth. While researching community activities, I came across the idea of thematic meet and greet events. That seemed like something which might work here, given a membership of several hundred people and a new theme each month. So I made one for this month's theme. It gives people a place to meet folks with similar interests, and to squee about the current theme.
Here is the basic outline. Fill in as much or as little of it as you wish, depending on your interests as they relate to the Fireworks Bingo Fest.
Name: Whatever you wish to be known by.
Sex/Gender Identity: Share any descriptions you wish people to know about you, including pronouns.
Find Me At: Your other blogs, services, or venues.
What I Love About Fireworks: Favorite activities, effects, traditions, decorations, tropes, etc.
What I Hate About Fireworks: Things you wish would go away, in real life or entertainment. Die, trope, die!
Favorite Genre(s) Featuring Explosives: Cartoon physics, pirates, space marines, spyjinks, wild west, etc.
Favorite Quote(s) About Blowing Shit Up: Welcome to my world, lady!
Great Fanworks That Blow Shit Up: Fiction, music videos, filksongs, whatever.
Best Explosions I've Seen Onscreen: Scenes in movies, television shows, etc.
Headcanons: Which characters do you think of as firebugs or powdermen?
Fireworks I Love To Do Myself: From sparklers to starbursts, let us know how you let 'em rip.
Favorite Fireworks Holiday: Cinco de Mayo, Fourth of July, New Year's Eve, etc.
Best Fireworks I've Ever Seen: In person or otherwise.
Favorite Blogs or Communities: Anything on Dreamwidth, or other venues, relating to the above topics.
About My Blog: A general description of your blog metaphor, what your blog contains, common formats / media, activity level, typical rating level, featured fandom(s) or original work, etc.
What I Create: Anything you make that relates to the Fireworks theme or above topics; fandoms, formats, recurring motifs, and so forth.
What I'm Looking For: Things you would like to get from this activity; readers, comments, recommendations of fandoms or fanworks, new friends, wider representation of something, etc.

Hello!

What I Love About Fireworks:
We usually go out for the Fourth of July but this year we've already done one small-town show, our backyard one, and I've got a Poetry Fishbowl on the 4th so the most I'll probably do then is go outside after dark to look for fireworks on the horizons.
I can't resist naming the chemicals that make the colors. My parents did it when I was little and it's a family nerd tradition.
I love ground fountains for home shows. I like the big starbursts, comets, and swimming fish in the aerials. I'm a huge fan of the art form because I know how hard it is to get shaped effects like arrow-through-heart. This year I saw a lot of great comets and some wonderful off-colors like lime green and peach. I've never seen a ladder to heaven live but would love to.
In entertainment, I love firework pranks that are fairly plausible. I confess that I also watch videos about fireworks fails and flushing fireworks down toilets.
What I Hate About Fireworks:
I hate the flash-bangs ones, technically called reports.
Favorite Genre(s) Featuring Explosives: Cartoon physics, pirates, and wild west primarily.
Favorite Quote(s) About Blowing Shit Up:
Few problems cannot be solved by sufficient application of plastic explosives.
Great Fanworks That Blow Shit Up:
"The Avengers March of Cambreadth"
Best Explosions I've Seen Onscreen:
STAR WARS: A NEW HOPE Clip - "Destroying The Death Star" (1977)
Wednesday sets fire to statue of Joseph Crackstone
Headcanons:
I think Jayne from Firefly would do very well at blowing shit up. Or any Firebender from Avatar: The Last Airbender.
Fireworks I Love To Do Myself: I like ground fountains, Roman candles, and high starbursts. But I have a soft spot for the silly novelties like Pooping Dog and Chicken Laying Eggs.
Favorite Fireworks Holiday:
Fourth of July.
Best Fireworks I've Ever Seen:
Boomsday in Tennesee. The magnesium waterfall off the bridge was epic.
Here at home, well ... this one time we bought color-changing sparklers that fired tiny balls of light like Roman candles. We had a few left at the end of the ritual, I mean like 2-3, so we tossed them in the firepit. And our dragon saved them -- somehow -- for over a year. There'd be one or two going off every ritual fire for the next dozen or so. I'm sure Drake somehow multiplied them to more than we'd even bought, let alone how many we tossed in at the end of the night.
Favorite Blogs or Communities:
I haven't really seen any on this topic. The old science communities have gone dormant. :(
About My Blog:
I post almost every day, often several times a day. If you're looking for an active blog, this is a good bet; if you're easily overwhelmed, not so much. I post a lot about writing, some nature and current events, especially science news. I share my gardening and birdfeeding experiences, with photos in the warmer months. I'm an active supporter of crowdfunding and often link to other people's projects. My blog has folks from all over the QUILTBAG. I don't hesitate to post dark topics -- some of the philosophical discussions get pretty heavy.
What I Create:
I write a lot of original work and some fanwork. A majority is narrative poetry, but I do some fiction too, occasionally demifiction or meta. I've written plenty about fireworks and explosions.
What I'm Looking For:
I'm always interested in new friends and readers, or new things to read in favorite topics. I'd enjoy connecting with more artists. If anyone knows of an active community for pyrotechnics or other science, then I'd love to hear about that.

I like watching fireworks IRL when other people are doing them. I don't personally want to touch anything bigger than a sparkler. (Love a sparkler though.)
Thoughts
Brilliant choice! So much potential for explosions in Doctor Who. Daleks leap readily to mind. :D

I love sparklers, even though I often go for bigger things too. Have you looked into the small novelties? Some of those are hilarious and they are about as safe as sparklers. Also they're cheap. You can often get a whole bag of different ones form $5-10.
